A systematic review and meta-analysis found that greater dietary vitamin C intake was associated with higher bone mineral density and around a 33% lower risk of osteoporosis (Malmir et al., 2018).

Other analyses have linked vitamin-C-rich diets with a lower risk of hip fracture too.

A meta-analysis of studies on vitamin-C-oriented foods found that a higher intake was associated with roughly a 34% lower prevalence of hip fracture (Zeng et al., 2020).

An honest note is warranted here: most of the vitamin C bone health evidence is observational, meaning it shows an association rather than proving that vitamin C alone causes stronger bones, and some newer analyses have been less clear-cut. What it does support is that adequate vitamin C, as part of a nutrient-rich diet, is good for bone health — not that mega-dosing works miracles.
